Throwball is a ball sport played between two teams. The teams of 9 players each are divided by a net on a rectangular court. It was first played in India as a Women’s sport in Chennai during the 1940’s. By 1990 throwball in India had become a sport for both men and women. In throwball the balls is thrown over the net, where a member of the other team tries to catch the ball and quickly throw it back across the net. One of the best benefits of playing throwball is that it helps burn off calories. It also helps you maintain a healthy weight; reduce the risk of heart diseases, diabetes and hypertension. The physical constant movement in throwball builds the muscles of lower as well as upper body. The constant use of arms and legs makes it a full body workout. Working in a team together improves mental health, reduces stress and improves self confidence. This sport also improves a player’s coordination, balance and speed. Loose fighting cool clothing is a must with a sturdy pair of shoes.
